New York’s almost-forgotten fashion designer

0n the big screen, Norell’s designed clothing for the 1962 film “That Touch of Mink” and 1963’s “The Wheeler Dealers.”

“A lot of what he did is as relevant now as then,” said Diane Roth, owner of L’Armoire in New Canaan, Connecticut. She’s received about a dozen inquiries about pieces by Norell last year. Roth sells high-end clothing and accessories, and carries vintage garments.

“The modern designers, if you look at their designs with the big buttons and the four pockets, that’s very Norman Norell,” Roth said.

Designer Donna Karan’s 1985 collection “Seven Easy Pieces” reflected a Norell influence.

Everybody is running for the exits at Marchesa

On Wednesday, it was announced that Helzberg Diamonds had canceled a collaboration with Marchesa that was due to hit stores this month.

Now, wedding stylist Diane Lloyd Roth, owner of L’Armoire clothing boutique in New Canaan, Conn., told The Post that clients are turning their backs on the fashion brand’s pricey bridal gown collection.

“I tell my brides to bring [pages] from magazines, and [Marchesa is] always included. [Some clients] were going to go look at Marchesa … and now they’re getting cold feet,” she said. “They don’t want the association. The first question when someone’s getting married is, ‘Who are you wearing?’”
